August 12, 2009 Career Connections Fairmont Holiday Inn The Youth Works participants from the Fairmont/Clarksburg/Morgantown area had an event held at the Fairmont Holiday Inn. Everyone participated in a discussion with Karen, the WVUCED Benefits Counselor, in regards to work incentives and reporting earned income to SSA. Participants played Career Bingo and also took part in an activity regarding job interviewing skills. After the presentations, everyone got to enjoy a poolside dinner and some swimming. Participants all received bags with various donated items and door prizes for participating in Career Bingo. 






September 30, 2009 Career Connections Buckhannon Hampton Inn HRDF WV Youth Works and WVU Center for Excellence in Disabilities presented a Career Connections Night at the Hampton Inn Conference Room and Pool in Buckhannon on September 30, 2009. There were 15 in attendance for the presentation and festivities. Karen Gerard from WVUCED presented information on YTD Waivers and SSA Work Incentives. Participants played games that focused on interview skills and prioritizing. Representatives from Mathematica Policy Research were on hand to meet with participants. All involved enjoyed pizza, door prizes and a few participants took a dip in the pool! (Pictures to come....) October 29, 2009 Career Connections Parkersburg Arts Center The Parkersburg area had their 2nd Career Connections Event, held at the Parkersburg Arts Center. Participants came together and listened to Belinda Fetty, Job Developer/Job Coach, talk about Preparing for Success and gave some sound advice on how to present yourself as a job seeker to potential employers. Participants shared stories from their personal work experiences and Belinda also shared some photos with the group to show appropriate dress for various work settings. Karen Gerard and Susanne Taylor, WVUCED Benefits Counselors, presented information on YTD Waivers and SSA Work Incentives. They were also able to field some specific questions from participants and their family members regarding benefits. Charlie Tyree, Customized Employment Specialist, lead some activities with the participants that got everyone working together and everyone really enjoyed themselves. The group enjoyed subs and snacks for dinner and there were some great door prizes that participants got to take home!
